Things are mellowing out over here- the laundry is done, and the hair is washed, although the house still looks like a cyclone went through (sorry Moondoggie!).

Today on my way to the post office I popped into the thrift store where I get my $1 paperbacks. They don't often have really nifty vintage stuff, since the space is small, and the turnover is high. However, today I SCORED

NINE hand-embroidered rooster handkerchiefs! Each rooster is a *little* bit different, and they are embroidered on the softest, lovely cotton. You may ask, "What will you do with nine handkerchiefs with roosters on them?" and the answer is, "Just you wait and see!"

I also picked up a stack of these:


Paris, just so you can see up close.
Little red and white cotton vignettes of people boozing it up all over the world. The set included Tyrol, Paris, New York, Olde England(!) and Ancient Rome. What are these? Thin fabric coasters? Cotton drink napkins? Little cocktail placemats? I don't know, but I'll have fun coming up with crafts in which to incorporate them.

I am usually not a very good thrift shopper-- I dither about things being useless or too expensive for what they are, and end up feeling both disappointed and ripped off. But I think the feeling I had when I saw these (Need them!) is probably what should guide a person when thrifting. I'm looking forward to the next Alameda Flea Market, I think it is time to try it again.
