2006-10-30 * Shells, Seeds and Ribbons

It was an idyllic (if not particularly crafty) weekend Chez Belleepoque. On Friday I went to the city beach with Moondoggie for a sunset surf (i sat on the beach, he surfed)

After a night out on the town, we woke early on Saturday to go to Bolinas, where I encountered what has to be my favorite "beware of sharks" and "pick up after your dog" sign ever

and this funny wooly bear

I'm used to the orange and black ones back east, so I'm not sure what kind of winter this one prophesies.

I collected shells at the beach, and seeds from the nasturtiums that grow wildly around the cottage

I don't know exactly how to preserve the seeds for planting in the spring, but a google search should fix that. Phase one in my spring terrace gardening plans designed to fly in the face of The Curse.

And Sunday, there was this:

Since August I've been semi-secretly (I stink at keeping secrets) gearing up for my first 5K run, which was on Sunday. If you know me in real life, you know that running has been anathema to me since time immemorial. When I casually dropped "...and I went for a run..." into a conversation with one of my best friends a few weeks ago, her eyes got huge and she said "Wait, back up, you went for a WHAT?!"

Well, sometimes you've got to face your somewhat irrational hatreds and embrace them in a neighborly manner, right? So, the almost inhumanly athletically gifted Moondoggie has been patiently coaching me so I could run a 5K without wanting to fall over dead, or kill someone, or both. The ribbon was for finishing, which was what I was going for! I finished in 30 minutes, which Moondoggie assures me is a perfectly respectable time (I was assailed with fear that I would come in LAST, but phew, I didn't).

I'm finishing up a crafty gift I promised ages ago, and still working on the tidying and organizing of my last post lo those many days ago. More anon!
