2006-11-16 * Material Girl As you may be able to tell from my "coveting" section below, I'm something of a material girl. I'm not proud of it, but I've accepted that *things* have the power to make me happy-- looking at them, thinking about them, making them, buying them. In my defense (if one needs to defend oneself about the capitalist urge to consume), I do remember everything about everything I buy-- point out something I'm wearing, reading or using and I can tell you where I bought it, when, what I was thinking, and more, even if it is something I've had for years. I do keep things rather a long time too, and get a lot of pleasure out of them, so it isn't *exactly* mindless consumption. In recent years I've also been better about trying to buy directly from designers and artisans when possible, in an effort to support individual creativity and independent business. ANYWAY! All of that to justify showing you the cute things I acquired today. First of all, I was on a totally practical and boring errand at Walgreen's, and found these: And the second instance of treasure trollish gloating over here is due to a less shameful aquisition that came in the form of a gift from my friend Meghan: And to prove my claim about my attachment to stuff: to the party I wore my first fall 06 dress (fabric from discount fabrics in SOMA), tights I bought on a lunch break at Marshalls in 2004, boots from a shopping jaunt with Camilla at Shoe Biz on Haight Street last January, a sweater from TJ Maxx in Connecticut bought with my mother in August 2003, and a pair of earrings I ordered from Wendy ofStudioGems last September. See? I wasn't kidding. Hmmm, perhaps that glass of BN has gone to my head. Blogging while intoxicated?
