2007-01-30 * Blah blah blah... It hasn't been a crafty few days, so I'll treat you to an entry with no pictures and just some babble. Don't say you weren't warned! First of all, did you read the Michael Pollan article on Nutritionism in the New York Times Magazine? Yipes. Thinking too much about food just stresses me out. Why is it I can't just live on tiny cupcakes with fluffy frosting and the occasional croque monsieur? And blood oranges, of course, and brussels sprouts (i like them). Anyway, his imperative to eat less of everything but leaves, and avoid anything your grandmother wouldn't recognise as food rang depressingly true. I don't have much affection for processed foods, so that isn't a problem. But sadly, I adore dairy and animal protein, and to hear that even skin-free chicken breasts are apparently not very good for you is depressing. Not to mention milk. Anyway, I've been stocking up on the leafies (where the affection for brussels sprouts comes in handy), and different ways to eat them. Here comes a tip! Trader Joe's Orange Muscat Champagne Vinegar is AMAZING! I use it without any oil on salad and it is delicious and doesn't make me cough (which uncut vinegar usually does). Please share your favorite salad dressing and leafy recipes if you like! In other news- OH MY GOSH, did you see the Masterpiece Theater Jane Eyre? I've been a big Toby Stephens fan for years now, since Photographing Fairies, and it kills me that he is ALWAYS cast as evil or unappealingly nutty(though he is the only actor who made me have any affection at all for Jay Gatsby, but we can talk about that another time). What a pleasure to see him play a hero! I knew he had it in him, and he's my favorite Mr. Rochester yet. I won't go on, but if you like that sort of thing, rent it(it will be on DVD in February, I think) or try to catch it on PBS when they show it again! Ok, thanks for bearing with the babble, I just had to get it out. I promise that my next post will contain both crafts and pictures. And a sheep, for those of you who stayed with me- doesn't it make you think of the moors?
