2006-08-15 * Coraling and Sheep Shoes

As my re-entry into craftiness, I decided to try out "coraling" based on this tutorial that I came across over at thimble, which is always a great source for crafty inspiration (not to mention the oh-so-divine Button of the Month Club). I made these earrings:

and in case you want to see one up close:

They look better when spread out like this than actually worn. But they were quite easy to make, and didn't take as long as the tutorial indicates (a pair in a weekend? try a pair in an hour and a half). I am deciding whether to make more for presents, or etsy perhaps, as I have a lot of beads and jewelry findings so this is a craft that wouldn't require any shopping. Would you wear them? I have to think that a necklace of this style would really be lovely, and am rather tempted by this book.

And my other new favorite thing?

Gah! Sheep shoes! Sheeeeep! For no reason at all during our honeymoon I started waxing nostalgic about a pair of wool slippers I had from the age of 15 to about 22. I wore them everywhere, even outside and walking around (they had cork soles), particularly when I was feeling very relaxed or lazy. They went well with my $5, thrifted, blue-striped bell-bottom polyester "chillin' pants" in college. Anyway, they got unforgivably stinky and battered and in one of my many moves I finally let them go. My sweetie had to hear this whole heart-rending story in the Galapagos (we were on a boat in the sea, he couldn't get away, poor dear). Anyway, on Sunday we were shopping, went into one of those ritzy expensive "walking shoe" places and saw these! 100% Wool sheep shoes! They are eerily like the original wool slippers, although actually better because THERE IS A SHEEP ON THEM! DID YOU SEE IT?! So of course I had to have them. And they were on sale. And no, I haven't taken them off since. Ok, maybe for a few hours a day, but then I put them back on. And these ones are machine washable too! Joy!

Re-entry into real life is proving harder than I expected, though things like sheep shoes take the sting out of it.

reading: High Five by Janet Evanovich- I've developed a strange affection for this series
coveting: sheep shoes for every outfit. hee hee.
