Today I made what I'm calling the Cassandra Mortmain Bag


None of the pictures convey its battered and quirky charm, really, which is too bad. I imagine Cassandra of I Capture The Castle might carry her journal and other necessities in it, mostly because the vintage fabric calls to mind 1930s curtains (it is more likely 1970's fabric, but allow me my wee fantasy).

Anyway, it is a trial run for a new fall bag for me, which I will likely make with the other vintage curtain fabric I used for this bag. I like the shape of the Cassandra bag, and the zippy flap pocket, but it needs a few more pockets, and perhaps a larger bottom and side gussets so I can carry all of *my* necessities(which I'm afraid take up more room than the thrifty Cassandra's).
